Cultural Pluralism and the Arts (formerly Arts in a Pluralist Society)

The project secured funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage to establish a Chair in the Arts in a Pluralist Society connected with the Arts Management Program at the University of Toronto at Scarborough. The team who led the funding proposal also developed the core curriculum to guide teaching and research in the field.  

The program was renamed Cultural Pluralism in the Arts (CPA) as part of the Department of Arts, Culture and Media with the goal of advancing skills and knowledge in the arts and cultural pluralism through course work and collaboration with the city's many diverse communities and artists.

The program operates through university courses, a bursary program for student internships, and public programming. The renaming of the program Cultural Pluralism and the Arts, while valuable, distorted the founding vision which was not focused on pluralism in arts practice, but on the role of the arts in a pluralist society; it was concerned with the ends more than the means (1995)
